Start a New Career ??? Wow, that seems like a brave thing to do at 40. It may sound really sad but I love my job, (I’m a secondary school English as a foreign language teacher in case you don’t already know) but it seems even sadder, albeit in a different way, that someone could have been doing a job for the last twenty or so years that they don’t actually enjoy, so much so that they not only want to change company but to change career altogether. I fell into my job by accident, living abroad what could I do, apart from speaking English – I was always pretty good at that! My children think I’m in the perfect job – for me, “you get paid for shouting at children and talking all day!!” there’s a little bit more to it than that, but basically that’s it, apart from laughing and eating chocolate cake in the staff room at break times, and of course the holidays. In France the saying goes that there are two good reasons to be a teacher – July and August. Yes, I get two months off in the summer, I love that but I’m always eager to start back again. My job brings me so much, I learn something – about myself, my pupils, how to be a better teacher every day. I have absolutely no idea what I would do if I changed career, so I’m waiting for your suggestions!
Quite agree Hannah, makes me realize how lucky I am to do a job that I really enjoy!
